Poul Cadovious

Poul Cadovius trained as a saddler and upholsterer but an interest in industrial design prompted him to set up his own furniture manufacturing company, Royal Systems, in 1945. In 1948 he designed the titular floating, modular shelving system. A revolution in Danish furniture design, it won the gold medal at the Finland Furniture Fair in 1950 and silver medal at the XI Triennale di Milano 1957 and is arguably thought to be one of the signature pieces of Midcentury Modern design. Throughout his life, Cadovius registered over 400 individual patents.
